Since a young age I have enjoyed creating and recording memories in song: telling stories like the old bards and troubadours of antiquity. When I was 19, I moved to Sydney to join a cover band and returned to Melbourne four years later as an aspiring solo singer/songwriter.
For me a gig is a gig, whether I am setting one up, playing on a street corner, inside a venue/cafe, or playing to clients at a hospital/rehab. That ‘zone’ for me is my soul food. I like to bring humour into my performances: a smile or a laugh is like a golden applause.
My vocal style has been compared to the likes of David Bowie, Nick Cave and Tom Waits. People describe it as deeply resonating.
For me, it’s the message that counts. Many of my songs have been created in efforts to exorcise something from me, usually for analysis and understanding. Nowdays I tend to write more for the underdog and those with a softer voice going through hard times. I hope to see this world turn away from it’s constant distractions and violence and more towards a mutual love and understanding of one another.
